BASFORD United manager Martin Carruthers believes a meeting with Witton Albion will be a test of his side’s promotion credentials.

And he is confident they can pass the exam too.

“We’re on a great run, and the next game can’t come around quickly enough,” he told the Nottinghamshire outfit’s official website.

“But the proof of the pudding will be in our performance on Saturday.

“We know Witton are among the best teams in the league, but when we went there earlier this season season we gave a good account of ourselves.”

Basford were unlucky to lose 2-1 at Wincham Park in October, when goals from Rob Hopley and Paul Williams established a lead for the hosts before Courey Grantham’s reply set up a close finish.

Carruthers’ side had won four of their previous five games before travelling to Northwich, and kick off tomorrow’s contest with a similarly strong run behind them.

A 5-0 drubbing of promotion play-offs rivals Leek last weekend was their sixth in the past seven league matches.

“We’re looking really strong right now,” added the Basford boss.

Only pace-setting Shaw Lane have collected more points in front of their own supporters in the Northern Premier League’s Division One South this season.

Indeed Basford are unbeaten in their past dozen fixtures at Greenwich Avenue, winning nine of them.

Albion have travelled well of late though, winning four of their past six league games outside of Northwich.

Kick off on Saturday is at 3pm.
