PAUL Moore admitted an injury to Steven Tames had taken the shine from Witton’s biggest league win of the campaign.

The front man left the field on a stretcher shortly before the final whistle after suffering what appeared to be a serious ankle injury.

He is now almost certain to sit out Tuesday’s meeting with Boston in the FA Trophy.

“Have we crossed paths with a black cat?” mused the first-team coach afterwards.

“It’s tarnished the result for us, and that’s a shame after performing the way we have done.”

Albion rise to fourth in Division One South following a 5-0 victory – their 10th in 14 Northern Premier League games this season.

The outcome was not in doubt from the moment Brad Bauress converted a penalty after Jake Donnelly hacked down Tom Owens seven minutes before the break.

Romulus were reduced to 10 men, and their hosts did not look back.

Moore said: “It could have been 8-0, couldn’t it?

“From open play, we dominated.

“We had to be patient though, because they were looking to use the pace they have in their team to hit us on the counter attack.

“People may comment on the opposition, but we can only beat who is in front of us.

“Take nothing away from our lads – they thoroughly deserved to win.

“We knew, after not playing so much in the league recently, that it was important to stay in the pack.

"There was no danger of being complacent.”
