WITTON Albion’s clash with Boston United in the FA Trophy, abandoned on Saturday, was postponed tonight without a ball being kicked.

Referee Benjamin Speedie called off the game shortly after 7pm following an inspection of the Wincham Park playing surface.

While the pitch was mostly soft, he felt a patch inside the penalty area at the Lostock Gralam end of the ground had not thawed sufficiently after freezing the previous evening.

The Pilgrims, along with a number of their supporters, had already arrived in Northwich in time for kick off at 7.45pm.

A new date for the third qualifying round tie, likely to be a week today, has yet to be announced.

Chester, from the National League, await the victors.
