CARL Macauley admitted Witton Albion were vulnerable in Saturday’s FA Trophy clash with Colwyn Bay after not doubling a lead established by Steve Tames’ goal.

The Seagulls earned a replay, scheduled for Tuesday, when Will Jones levelled after the interval.

“At 1-0, I felt we needed to score again so we could control the game better,” said Macauley afterwards.

“We might have got one in the first half, when we were able to play out from defence, get forward and create chances.

“There’s no question we should have had a penalty, but we kept pushing even after that wasn’t given.”

The visitors rode their luck too.

Jones struck an upright with an attempt in the first half, while goalkeeper Danny Roberts saved Luke Denson’s weak penalty after he had hauled down Tom Schofield at the end of a counter attack.

Macauley added: “The result is fair.

“They completely changed their shape in the second half, putting two up front and we found it harder to get out [of our half].

“There were better than us.

“I’m disappointed with the goal we conceded – every manager will say the same after letting in a goal from a set piece.

“We’d worked hard in open play to stop them, only then to get undone like that.

“It was a great cup tie though, and we came here wanting to still be in the competition when the draw for the next round is made [on Monday].

“We are, so it’s job done.”
