TOLANI Omotola was on target twice as Witton Albion responded exactly how Carl Macauley would have wanted to a first league defeat of the season.

The teenage front man, on loan from Tranmere Rovers, squeezed a shot inside an upright to put the visitors in front shortly before the break.

His second goal was even more impressive, shrugging off a defender’s attention before firing high past Newcastle goalkeeper Aaron Dillon.

It sends his side back into the Northern Premier League Division One South top five.

Witton, without captain Anthony Gardner but with Rob Hopley restored to the point of the attack following a holiday, had slipped from the play-offs places following a surprise 3-2 reverse at lowly Carlton on Saturday.

In-form Omotola again caught the eye though, and he had shot off-target twice before finding the net on 42 minutes.

Jordan Cole prompted Danny Roberts to make a save in the second half but the home team, managed by former Albion boss Scott Dundas, fell further behind when Omotola finished stylishly.

He now has seven goals from eight starts since agreeing a temporary stay at Wincham Park in the summer.

Witton will hope he can continue that sequence when Basford United, victors in four of their past five league matches, arrive in town on Saturday.
