WITTON Albion’s latest win, their third in succession in Division One South, was their hardest-earned.

Prince Haywood kept his cool to convert a penalty in stoppage time after substitute Wes Benjamin had been tripped by Reece Treasure, keeping Carl Macauley’s men at the table’s summit.

It also marks the first time since 2000 that Albion have started a campaign with a hat-trick of league wins.

There was little to choose between them and hosts searching for a first victory following back-to-back defeats.

And Club went closest to scoring in the opening period when Liam Royles’ cross was deflected onto the woodwork by Witton’s Ryan Hickman.

The second half brought with it more chances, and Sheffield goalkeeper Chris Butt had to be at his best to thwart Tolani Omotola from close range.

The in-form front man also headed over from close range.

Michael Towey shot too close to Albion custodian Danny Roberts at the other end.

Butt denied Rob Hopley and Haywood too, only for his side’s stubborn resistance to end with seconds on the clock.
