WITTON Albion ran into resurgent Spennymoor at the wrong time.

The Moors had already plundered 19 goals in a four-match winning run before meeting Carl Macauley’s men, who had lost only one of their previous 11 Division One North games.

In the end though, the home team proved too strong.

They began brightly, and Michael Wilson’s block diverted Shane Henry’s attempt in the second minute.

Liam Henderson fired wide from close range, while at the other end Danny Andrews directed an effort off-target.

Spennymoor assumed control of the contest by scoring twice in as many minutes, taking the lead when Andrew Stephenson toe-poked in Henderson’s cross.

Henderson doubled the hosts’ advantage in stunning fashion, firing past Albion goalkeeper Owen Evans with a shot from distance that dipped under the crossbar.

Darrhyl Mason crafted for himself an opportunity to halve the visitors’ deficit early in the second period, only to be denied by Spennymoor goalkeeper Dan Lowson’s smart save.

A third goal settled the outcome in the Moors’ favour on 55 minutes, Stephenson shooting left-footed past Evans after controlling Mark Anderson’s cross on his chest.

Toby Mullarkey went close for Witton, and Lowson parried Andrews’ free kick to safety.

He was alert too when Rob Hopley shot goal-wards late on.

The net-minder’s final contribution was to again thwart Mason, this time from long-range, in added time.
