THE more changes Carl Macauley makes, the more things stay the same for Witton Albion.

Five names on the team-sheet were different to ones that appeared for the previous game a week earlier, four of them for the first time.

But the outcome was sadly familiar; a sixth league defeat from the past seven attempts.

The former Marine manager, who has overseen four consecutive losses since replacing Scott Dundas in the dugout, gave youth a chance for Witton’s fourth meeting with Ossett Albion this term.

Four teenagers started, reducing the visitors’ average age to 22.

And they were the better side during the early exchanges, when Anthony Gardner – captain while Darren Chadwick sat on the bench – and Danny Andrews went close.

The latter ought to have put his side ahead on 36 minutes, only to shoot high after coming face-to-face with Ossett goalkeeper Brett Souter.

Instead the hosts sneaked into the lead before the break, when Adam Muller scrambled into the net from close range.

A second goal followed five minutes after the restart, this time after Rob Bordman escaped Gardner’s attention on Albion’s right.

After tempting custodian Andy Firth from his line, the attacker passed unselfishly to Connor Brunt who applied a finishing touch.

Bordman then struck twice in a four-minute spell to settle the outcome.

First, he flicked in Declan Dawson’s cross at the near post.

He then fired past Firth from an acute angle to inflict upon Albion a third successive away reverse in Division One North, the 15th goal they have conceded in that sequence.

Just as worryingly, they have scored only once in their past five matches in all competitions.
