WITTON claimed a second victory in Ossett in the space of five days, following Tuesday’s success against Albion with a Saturday stroll at Town’s expense.

They have now scored more goals away from home this season – 17 – than any of their Division One North rivals.

Five of those were put past Town, who went closest during the early exchanges when Nathan Curtis’ header clipped the crossbar.

However the hosts fell behind after quarter of an hour, Danny Andrews converting from the penalty spot after Reece Farnhill had committed a foul.

Alex Titchiner fired narrowly wide, then Ossett were forced to put skipper Steven Jeff – a midfielder – in goal after Tom Morgan succumbed to an injury.

Witton goalkeeper Dominic Garner was not fooled by Jimmy Eyles’ chipped attempt at the other end, while Jeff stopped efforts from Titchiner and Chris Baker.

The visitors survived a scare when Darren Chadwick blocked Sam Akeroyd’s goal-bound shot, instead doubling their lead in first-half stoppage time when Baker – from Anthony Gardner’s pass – found the net for a fourth successive match.

Titchiner punished Jeff’s poor positioning at the start of the second period, making it 3-0 with a shot from distance.

Now in complete control, Albion cursed their luck when Andrews’ spectacular effort hit the woodwork and Baker blazed the loose ball off-target from close range.

Ossett’s fast-fading hopes of a comeback were then dashed on 63 minutes when Tyrone Gay was shown a red card for kicking out at Andrews.

Garner kept out Akeroyd’s free kick, a feat matched by Jeff when Gary Roberts sent a set piece his way.

However Witton added two goals in the final five minutes, first when debutant George Grayson – signed from Salford this week – tapped in a rebound after Jeff had thwarted substitute Jon Dawson and Jamie Matthews.

And Matthews completed the scoring when he pinched possession from Lee Connor before firing past Jeff.
