WITTON recorded their biggest league win in more than three years on Tuesday, when Danny Andrews marked his first start of the season with a double.

The wide man, picked by Albion supporters as their player of the year last term, sat out Saturday’s single-goal success against Ossett through suspension.

However he needed only 10 minutes to score against Prescot.

After Chris Baker swapped passes with Jon Dawson on the left, his cross was met by Andrews who skipped around goalkeeper Jack Cookson before netting.

And Albion made it 2-0 midway through the opening period, captain Darren Chadwick diverting Andrews’ corner goal-wards with a looping header.

Witton dominated from then on.

Alex Titchiner lobbed narrowly off-target, then prompted Cookson to smother.

Jon Beaumont headed wide an Andrews’ assist before Titchiner tried again, twice, to add his name to the list of scorers.

Lee Cropper turned in Titchiner’s centre, only to be judged by a linesman to be offside, before a third goal arrived in the seconds before the interval.

Titchiner teed up Andrews, who drilled with precision between Cookson and an upright.

Prescot’s only glimpse of goal went to Rob Doran, but he could only direct a header straight at custodian Danny Roberts.

Witton added to their lead with two goals in a three-minute spell after the interval.

Chris Baker, at the second attempt after an initial effort had been blocked, converted via a deflection.

He repeated the trick later, this time squeezing a shot inside the post after a defender had kicked clear his first from on the line.

The winger was denied a hat-trick by an offside call, then Cropper skied a shot following a forward burst by Dawson.

Manager Scott Dundas sent on new recruit Ben Mills, who had completed a move from Nantwich earlier in the day, for the final quarter.

A Dawson attempt almost squirmed from Cookson’s grasp, although Prescot’s number one was more convincing when he thwarted Baker with a flying save in stoppage time.

However substitute Kyle Diskin was alert, squaring for Cropper to convert the loose ball.
