TONY Sullivan believes Witton are on course to avoid relegation, and urged his players to use three successive home games to accelerate their progress.

Albion rose from the Premier Division’s relegation zone following a 3-2 win at Frickley, making them the only team in the table’s bottom 10 to pick up maximum points on Saturday.

“It’s part of a journey we’re on,” said Sullivan at full time.

“We haven’t lost now in seven games; that’s seven positive steps as a team and a club.

“Are we where I want us to be? No, not yet.

“We’ve a big couple of weeks ahead before this month ends. If we can win a couple more matches in that time, then we’ll be in a great position.”

Albion host struggling King’s Lynn, without a victory in their past eight league games, on Tuesday.

After that, Skelmersdale and then Rushall visit Wincham Park.

Witton came from behind to win a fiery encounter with Frickley, who had Luke Hinsley dismissed in the first half as punishment for spitting at Tom Schofield.

The home side demanded referee Richard Wild show a red card to John Shaw when he tripped Reece Thompson to concede a penalty shortly after the interval, only to caution the Albion captain after asking a linesman for his verdict.

Goalkeeper Andy Robertson saved the resulting spot kick.

Sullivan said: “I’m proud of those players; they’ve had a lot of stick in the past couple of weeks, but have produced a performance that says a lot about them.

“I hate to see what their lad did for the sending off. Only he knows if he meant it, but from where I was stood it didn’t look clever.

“John Shaw was lucky, no question.

“But I can’t remember too many things going my way since I came here.

“You can say the deflection for Danny Andrews’ [first] goal when we equalised was fortunate too, but I don’t care if the shot goes in off a pigeon’s head if I’m honest.”
