TONY Sullivan thinks it is too soon to tell if Witton have put behind them a miserable start to the season.

Albion lost the first seven league matches of his tenure, conceding 16 goals and scoring only three, but have since won three of the past four.

However they remain in the Premier Division’s relegation zone.

“Our position is still precarious,” said Witton’s manager.

“The lads are telling me they have confidence, but we haven’t done anything that means we can shout from the rooftops.

“When our points tally is a bit higher, we’ll be on the way to finishing the job we’ve started together.

“But that’s not happened yet – what we have done is give ourselves a good chance.”

Witton rose from the bottom four following last Saturday’s 3-0 success against Stamford, but returned there after Blyth Spartans and Nantwich Town recorded wins in midweek.

However Albion are within three points of four rivals immediately above them in the standings.

“We’ll worry for now about catching those sides,” said Sullivan.

“It’s been proven time and again in this division that the outcome of no games are a given.

“That’s why we can’t afford to be calculating what one result means compared to another, nor is it worth beating ourselves up if one goes against us.”

The 40-year-old does though want to travel to Marine on New Year’s Day occupying a position outside of the drop zone.

Chairman Mark Harris believes Witton will do that if they pick up eight points from the four scheduled four games before then.

That sequence starts with a visit from Workington today, Saturday, and from Nantwich and Rushall at Christmas.

A trio to Ilkeston next weekend precedes that double-header.

Sullivan said: “Our performances in the past four games have been closest to how I like my teams to play – scoring lots of goals and working harder than our opponents.

“If we can do that repeatedly, then we’ll be rewarded.”
