Match pointers

WITTON can record three successive home wins for the first time this season if they beat Workington this weekend.

Tony Sullivan’s men have taken maximum points from three of their past four Premier Division matches too, but they remain in the table’s relegation zone.

Front man Alex Titchiner is a major doubt after injuring an ankle during last Saturday’s 3-0 success against Stamford, so Jamie Rainford – who scored twice as a substitute against the Daniels – stands by to replace him.

That contest marked only a second shutout of the campaign in front of their own supporters.

Those fans will be buoyed though by Witton’s home record against Workington in the Northern Premier League, which boasts one defeat in 16 meetings.

However Reds, Albion’s conquerors in the FA Trophy last month following a replay, arrive in Northwich seeking to extend an unbeaten sequence in the league to seven matches.

Only three teams – Halesown, Ilkeston and leaders Skelmersdale – have conceded fewer goals on their travels to date.

In contrast, Witton have shipped more on home turf than everybody apart from back-markers Belper.

Alex Salmon is available again after missing Tuesday’s 1-0 win at Marine through suspension, but Stephen Hindmarch (back) is missing.
