Match pointers

WITTON Albion’s target is to end a sequence of 12 successive league defeats when Ashton United visit Wincham Park tomorrow.

Tony Sullivan’s men have lost their past five Premier Division encounters at Wincham Park, a sequence that started with a 2-1 reverse at home to Curzon Ashton on September 9.

They have conceded more goals on their own pitch than any other side in the Northern Premier League’s top flight.

Striker Jamie Rainford starts a three-match ban as punishment for his dismissal at FC United a fortnight ago, while Michael Powell (knee) is a long-term injury absentee.

Midfielder Luke Ainscough has joined the club this week from Huws Gray Alliance outfit Flint Town, while Sullivan hopes to complete the signing of at least a couple more new recruits in time.

Visitors Ashton have won on their past two trips to Wincham for league games, including a 2-1 victory last December.

The Robins are among the Premier Division’s best travellers with only the top two teams, Skelmersdale and Buxton, able to boast of picking up more points.

They have won the past four away from home.

Skipper Jay Gorton (hamstring) is ruled out by injury, while Gary Gee serves a ban.
