WITTON say they are considering an arrangement to share their pitch with another club from next season.

In a statement issued yesterday, Albion admitted having a tenant would bring in money they could use to sustain a team in the Northern Premier League’s top flight.

They confirmed talks have taken place with more than one rival in recent months, but declined to name them.

A deal has not yet been done with anybody.

“We are aware of local speculation about a possible ground-share at Wincham Park for next season and beyond,” reads the statement.

“The club is actively pursuing the possibility of doing so for purely commercial reasons.

“Despite a great deal of ongoing work, income streams are not keeping pace with the rising cost, both on and off the field, of operating at this level.

“It is the board’s responsibility to ensure the hard-earned financial stability of the club is not jeopardised, to which end all additional revenue sources must by explored fully.”

Chairman Mark Harris met with the club’s volunteers on Wednesday to discuss the idea in principle.

He received their support.

Witton have already played landlord to a tenant at their Wincham home.

Then neighbours Northwich Victoria hosted opponents there for three years from 2002 following the sale of the Drill Field.

They moved to the Victoria Stadium nearby when it was opened in 2005.

Vics signed another ground-share agreement with Albion in 2011, only to be fined for refusing to play a league game there.

Runcorn Linnets spent four seasons with Witton between 2006 and 2010 following their formation, returning to town when the Millbank Linnets Stadium was ready.

The Northern Premier League would need to sanction any ground-share arrangement if one is finalised.

“We will only make a formal announcement if, and when, it is approved,” concludes Witton’s statement.
