BRIAN Pritchard says he will not accept a repeat of an Albion performance on Tuesday that he criticised as timid.

Witton return to league action at King’s Lynn Town later today, Saturday, when they protect a six-match unbeaten sequence in the Premier Division.

However the manager has demanded an instant improvement after watching his team tumble out of the FA Trophy against Leek in midweek.

He said: “At times, our play was lazy.

“The thing that hurts a manager most is when his side loses to a team who shows greater desire. Leek were more up for it than my players, and that represents a drop in the high standards we have set over the past few weeks.

“It’s doubly frustrating because the momentum we had from not losing in nine previous games has now gone.

“Not only that, we threw away a chance to get through to the next round.

“It was a complete contrast to last Saturday, when we were better than Ilkeston and deserved to beat them.”

He told the Guardian he expects to make changes – at least two – for the trip to Norfolk to play Linnets.

Central defender Rob Bodie, ineligible in midweek, is available for selection again while full back Anthony Gardner continued his recovery from a long-term injury by figuring for a half in Witton reserves’ 2-1 win against their Curzon Ashton counterparts on Thursday.

Anthony Sheehan (knee) continues to convalesce though.

Pritchard said: “It’s been great for Anthony Gardner to get some game time this week. We’ll need to be patient while he returns to full fitness, but he’ll get stronger quickly.

“It’s been frustrating for Rob [Bodie] as the FA Trophy games have meant he’s had a stop-start beginning to his time here. Now he’ll be in the reckoning for each game.”
