WINNINGTON Park start a survival shoot-out on Saturday against teams below them in the standings.

A 22-15 reverse at Bowdon last weekend leaves Mark Warr’s men five points above the South Lancashire & Cheshire Division One drop zone with two matches to play.

They head to already-relegated Ormskirk this weekend, where a win will make safe their place in the section for another season.

“The future is in our hands,” said captain Rob Burchell.

“We were unlucky at Bowdon, where we led 15-3 with a quarter hour left, but we were unable to keep up the intensity of our play for the full 80 minutes.”

Park have endured a disastrous start to 2012, losing 11 of 12 encounters played since the turn of the year.

Their hosts this weekend have won only four matches this term, losing eight of their past nine games.

Of the other relegation contenders, Liverpool Collegiate host Wigan while in-form Warrington – victors in five of the previous half dozen matches – welcome Ashton-on-Mersey.

All matches at the weekend kick off at 3pm.
