Another weekend without rugby union

RUGBY players will wait another week to play their first match of 2010 after games on Saturday involving Northwich and Winnington Park were postponed.

Blacks were due to host New Brighton in a double-header at Moss Farm, but the pitch remains covered in snow and is frozen underneath.

The victors in the rescheduled match will, in addition to maximum points, also earn a place in the Cheshire RFU Vase final.

It leaves Dodo Muntean’s men facing the real prospect of a fixtures pile-up as it will be six weeks since their previous outing by the time they run out against Wilmslow next week.

Their last match was back on December 5, when they scored a seventh successive league win in a 10-9 success at home to Broughton Park.

Matches against Leigh and Liverpool St Helens were postponed before Christmas, while a trip to Lymm was aborted last week.

Neighbours Winnington Park have fared little better with the weather, their scheduled match at Oswestry tomorrow the latest to be ruined by the weather.

That match has already been fixed for Saturday, April 3, kick off 2.30pm.

There will be no matches at Burrows Hill either, where Park seconds had been due to host Oswestry seconds while the Vags had been due to entertain Warrington seconds.

The story is the same for Northwich thirds over the fence, who were paired with Formby, while Northwich seconds’ trip to Caldy thirds is off too.
