THIS is the Winnington that Roger Pickering wants to see.

Park’s head coach watched his improving team run in nine tries as they avenged a surprise defeat earlier in the campaign against opponents that have now lost five successive matches in South Lancs/Cheshire Division Two.

“We were clinical,” said Pickering afterwards.

“I asked the guys to control possession and be calculated; they were exactly that.”

The hosts took charge at Burrows Hill from the moment full-back Jack Phillips touched down in the corner inside five minutes.

Cameron Flanagan converted.

He repeated the trick shortly afterwards when Danny Williams burst forward before inviting Lewis Pickering to dot down between the posts.

Flanagan again added the extras.

Wing Craig Lamb was next to add his name to the scoresheet after he raced past several attempted tackles on the left before setting up a simple conversion for Flanagan.

Port Sunlight notched a try of their own after Winnington failed to clear their lines.

However Jack Williams, on as a replacement to mark his return from a wrist injury, claimed a fine solo score after sprinting on to his own chipped kick.

Flanagan could not improve it, and Jack Williams scored again before the interval following Matt Treacy’s initial break.

A second try for the visitors left them 33-10 adrift at the interval.

Another substitute, Nic Clawson, darted through a gap in Port Sunlight’s defence to score the first try of the second half.

Jack Williams, taking over kicking duty after Flanagan was forced to leave the field with a broken nose, did the rest.

Pickering doubled his personal tally after intercepting a loose pass, presenting Williams with a straightforward task to convert, before Clawson went over the whitewash again.

Treacy then claimed a try his individual display deserved.
