Winnington Park Ladies 12-5 Coalville Ladies

AFTER a month without a match, Winnington Park's Ladies returned to action in style when they toppled league leaders Coalville to record their first victory.

They trailed after conceding a try inside five minutes at Burrows Hill, but applied pressure to their guests for the remainder of the first half.

Stacey Godfrey skipped over in the corner to break through the visitors' spirited defence, restoring parity before the break.

The teams could not be separated in the second period until debutant Sharon Harrogate, propelled forward by the full force of Park's pack, crashed over to claim a decisive try.

Laura Underdown added a conversion.

Coalville, victors in three of their previous four matches, threw everything at their hosts during the final 15 minutes in search of a reply.

However their path to the line was blocked at every turn.

"It's a wonderful win, and a well-deserved one," said Park coach Martin Eastwood.

"Hopefully it can be the first of many."

Winnington return to action on Sunday week, November 13, when Aston Old Edwardian will be their guests.
