WINNINGTON Park seconds completed a double over their Didsbury counterparts on Saturday to stay in contention for a promotion place.

The hosts scored five tries during cold conditions at Burrows Hill, where Gareth Williams, Nic Clawson, Gareth May, Jamie Pugh and James Johnson touched down.

Johnson and Jack Williams kicked a conversion each in a 29-12 victory on their return to action after a winter break made longer by the poor weather in the past fortnight.

It leaves them third in Division Two South, a single point behind second-placed Christleton.

Northwich seconds' home date with Liverpool St Helens was postponed.

Winnington's thirds resisted a second-half recovery by visitors Altrincham Kersal to secure a slender 14-12 win in Division Five South.

Rodger Rayner's try, converted by Cameron Flanagan, established an interval lead for the home team.

And they added to their advantage when scrum-half Will Anderson crossed the whitewash after the interval, again converted by Flanagan.

Altrincham, victors only once since the season's opening day, rallied.

A pair of tries, one of them converted, helped them close the gap with 20 minutes left.

However Park held on, rising to second in the standings as a reward.
