Winnington Park 29 Bowdon 14

WINNINGTON put behind them the disappointment of last weekend’s derby defeat to protect a perfect record this season at Burrows Hill.

An impressive first half performance, during which they ran in three converted tries, gave their guests too much to do even after the dismissal of Park replacement Ben Ridgway.

Jack Williams, who claimed all of their points at Moss Farm seven days earlier, danced past two tacklers to touch down under the posts during the early exchanges.

Danny Williams and Joe Robins had combined in the build-up after scrum half Matthew Cross spotted an opportunity to attack down the blindside.

A second try followed when Danny Williams ran a fine line to burst through the visitors’ defence, namesake Jack again adding the extras.

Winnington increased their lead before the interval when Lee Allmark intercepted a loose pass while Bowdon were on the attack, sprinting clear of covering defenders to cross under the posts.

Williams converted, slotting a penalty shortly afterward to make it 24-0.

Craig Lamb was denied a try of his own after chasing his own kick forward to score in the corner, only for the match official to rule he had taken the ball into touch.

The second half was a closer contest, with Bowdon reducing the deficit to 10 points after scoring two converted tries.

Ridgway’s fine individual performance was blotted when he was sent off but, despite being a man down, Park closed out the remainder of the game.

They even found time to score a fourth try when star turn Danny Williams cut another impressive line through Bowdon’s backline.

It leaves Park third in the South Lancs/Cheshire Division One table, three points adrift of Liverpool St Helens.

They travel to Ruskin Park this Saturday.
