Northwich Victoria slide to spectacular defeat at home to Droylsden

DROYLSDEN delivered a ruthless reality check to Northwich Victoria, running in five goals to move back in to the play-offs places.

Their win was emphatic.

Dave Pace’s men scored twice in the first quarter hour, first Neil Prince firing through James Spencer before Shaun Whalley scooped a second after sprinting clear of Vics’ static backline.

The hosts mustered a rally of sorts after half time, substitute Mark Danks blasting in a volley after combining with fellow replacement Jamie Vermiglio.

The contest turned on two pivotal moments.

First Jimmy Spencer’s tumble in the box after Mike Byrom’s rash challenge went without the reward of a penalty, then at the other end Ryan Clarke was sent off for flooring Shaun Whalley as he raced clear on goal.

However the home team felt Mat Bailey had been fouled in the build up.

Tony Gray’s free kick then went in off James Spencer after hitting the post, but Droylsden’s front man did score from the spot after he had been tripped by Simon Grand.

Sub Kevin Leadbetter added gloss when he angled in a smart finish after picking Junior Brown’s pocket as Vics’ resistance crumbled.

Then Bailey drilled in a consolation in stoppage time.
