Match Pointers
NORTHWICH Victoria start life without skipper Simon Grand against old foes Stafford Rangers.

The defender joined Blue Square North title hopefuls Fleetwood Town last night, Thursday, forcing manager Andy Preece into at least one change from the team that started the midweek draw against Corby Town.

Ryan Clarke and Danny Meadowcroft, recalled from his loan stay at Colwyn Bay, are alternatives to partner Nat Kerr at the heart of Vics’ backline.

Another back at the Victoria Stadium after a stint away, midfielder Harry Winter, is pushing for a start too after a successful spell at FC Halifax Town.

Jonny Allan, who has not started a league game since November 15, is set for a return to action after being an unused substitute in midweek.

Opponents Stafford arrive in town with a growing reputation as an increasingly tough team to beat after a run of two defeats in their last nine league games.

Manager Chris Brindley is urging his side to be more clinical following four draws over that period, which has left the club only five points clear of the bottom three.

Top scorer Nick Wellecomme returns to the starting line-up after missing the past four matches through injury and suspension, but Craig McAughtrie might have to settle for a place on the bench because of the impressive form of Grant Goodhead and Manny Udoji in his absence.
