Match Pointers
NORTHWICH Victoria hope to return to the Blue Square North’s top half by recording a fourth successive league win tonight, Wednesday.

Andy Preece’s men have scored 12 times in three matches since the turn of the year, but face their toughest task yet at home to play-offs hopefuls Droylsden.

The Vics manager is confident that Junior Brown, Jon D’Laryea (both Achilles)and Brian Dutton (hamstring) will shake off injuries picked up in the 3-2 win at Farsley Celtic ten days ago, leaving Jonny Allan (knee) as the only absentee.

Top scorer Mark Danks is available too after serving a four-matches suspension but he may have to settle for a place on the bench while Dutton and on-loan teenager Jimmy Spencer continue to develop their partnership in attack.

The visitors shared in a six-goals thriller on their last visit to the Victoria Stadium back in August 2007 when both teams were playing in the Blue Square Premier.

Dave Pace’s men return to town in sixth place, a single point outside the play-offs positions.

They put five goals past Northwich in the match at Butchers Arms back in August, Vics’ heaviest defeat with Preece sat in the dugout.

But they do not travel so well.

The division’s top scorers after Fleetwood Town and Southport have won one of their past five matches on the road in the league. However their blank at Ilkeston Town on Saturday marked the first time the Bloods have failed to find the net on their travels this term.

Ex-Witton Albion trio Alex Brown, Liam Brownhill and Shaun Whalley will be looking to impress at the home of their former neighbours, while newcomers Chris Butler and Eniola Oluwa may make their first starts.

Goalkeeper Paul Phillips is definitely out, so Craig Mawson steps-in.
