TEENAGERS from Northwich Rowing Club stood on the podium last weekend after a thrilling final during the Junior Inter-Regional Regatta.

Patrick Brogan and Gwilym Harris, racing in the North West’s distinctive orange T-shirts, formed an under 16s boys’ double scull that claimed a silver medal following a frantic sprint to the line.

A rival Eastern boat clocked an identical time, and the crews shared second spot behind victors Thames South East after a dead heat.

Brogan and Harris, coached by Barrie Blake, had finished adrift of Thames Upriver in their heat.

Northwich also sent an under 16s girls’ quad, consisting of Molly Garlick, Amber Sperring-Toy, Fran Campbell and Olivia Dunnett, to the National Water Sports Centre in Nottingham.

That combination classified fifth in the A final after taking second place behind Thames Upriver, who took the gold medal, in their heat over a 1,500m course.

A Grange School Rowing Club crew, made up of Brad Strickland-Baker, Seb Paisley, Nat Morrey and Jack McGinn, brought back a bronze medal after placing third in the under 16s boys’ quad final.

They had progressed by winning their heat.

Harry Barker, Sam Thorington, Morgan Gray, Rory Webster and cox Alex Collins raced an under 16s boys' composite eight with King's School Chester.

After classifying third in their heat against more settled line-ups, they recovered to take victory in the B final and seventh overall.

The North West ranked fourth overall after points collected by the boys, who were third, and girls’ teams were combined.

Meanwhile Thames Upriver took back the Di Ellis Shield from Thames London, last year’s winners.
