MARK Wakefield is hoping for a repeat of previous results at Rockingham when the Volkswagen Racing Cup resumes this weekend.

The Weaverham driver, who made his debut in a Team HARD Golf earlier this month, has fond memories of the circuit after celebrating a maiden win there in the MINI Challenge UK's Cooper class three years ago.

And he has set his sights high again following a successful test in his new machine.

“We changed the set-up and it went really well,” he said.

“My lap times on old tyres were quick, and it’s reassuring to know I’m close to the required place.

“I’m feeling a bit more comfortable behind the wheel now, and able to control the car how I like.”

Following a successful weekend at the Northamptonshire track in 2015, when he stood on the end of the podium after all three races, Wakefield took second spot there last season.

He added: “It’s a funny one, because before first drove there I didn’t think I’d like it.

“However I always seem to pick up good results and so I’ve changed my mind now!

“I’d love to get a podium there, and that’s my aim – but a top-five finish or two would be a decent marker that I’m making progress.

"We'll get some track time there on Friday, so that will give me a better idea of where I am in relation to everybody else."

A 20-minute qualifying session on Saturday is followed by two races on Sunday.

Wakefield classified ninth during the campaign opener at Silverstone over Easter before a broken diff ended early his involvement in the second sprint.

He was running seventh.
