VALE Royal Abbey Golf Club has added its support to a drive to get more women involved in the game.

The Whitegate club are offering a free taster session for women interested in taking up golf, providing them with the ideal opportunity to learn about what is involved.

Ben Derbyshire, the club’s PGA professional, and assistant Brian Cassidy will deliver the session on Sunday, April 15, between 3pm and 5pm.

Some of the club’s female members will also be on hand to assist the session that will introduce participants to different aspects of the game.

Follow-up coaching will be available for anyone wanting to develop their skills further, with Ben and Brian offering Thursday and Sunday classes in six-week blocks after the taster session.

Alison Lyons, Cheshire club support officer for England Golf, hopes plenty of women take the club up on their offer.

“It has been a pleasure to work with Ben and the team at Vale Royal Abbey Golf Club to develop this programme to attract new women into the game,” she said.

“It’s great to see the club’s owners get behind the initiative and help create a pathway into membership for them.

“Hopefully lots of women will take up the opportunity to visit the club and see what it has to offer.”
