THE best players from Northwich kept hold of the Cheshire Interleague title as a reward for beating their closest rivals in the season’s concluding round.
A 14-4 win at home to Macclesfield A, avenging a defeat against the same opponents in July, propelled a team captained by Eric Webber to the top of the table.
Their reward is to contest the National Interleague Finals at Great Yarmouth in April – a competition in which they have enjoyed success previously.
They dominated both sessions in the decider, taking each one 7-2.
Seven players – the skipper, Steve Moores, Darryl Fallows, Steve Whitlow, Fred Backhouse and Nick Hubert – won both of their matches.
Northwich A haven’t visited the south coast to try and claim the national prize since they finished as runners-up to Trent Trophies A following a heroic run back in 2011.
They did though play in the National Interleague Knockout two years ago, and bowed out following a 10-3 defeat against Hammersmith A in the last 16.
Northwich A: Fred Backhouse, Leigh Cobley, Steve Moores (Castle D); Darry Fallows, Nick Hubert, Eric Webber (captain), Lewis Webber, Steve Whitlow (all Gladstone C); Ben Johnson (Gladstone A).
