WINNINGTON Park quickly put behind them the disappointment of an unbeaten run ending by winning a game the next day.

Joe Booth scored their only goal in a 4-1 defeat away to Didsbury Northern seconds in the North West Men’s League on Saturday – a first loss since October 7.

However they rallied to win a rearranged encounter with Bebington the following afternoon, when Pete Evans’ hat-trick was a highlight of a 5-4 victory.

Dave Thompson and Matty Howard were both on target too, sending their side up to fourth in the Division One table.

They sit three points behind leaders Knutsford ahead of a meeting with Bowdon thirds on Saturday.

Harry Garner’s goal from a short-corner established an interval lead for Park’s seconds against Alderley Edge’s fourths at Sir John Deane’s College.

They ought to have been further ahead after creating a host of chances, and were punished when the visitors fought back later to record a 3-1 win.

Winnington’s fourths extended a winning sequence to four matches after scoring twice during the opening exchanges with Whitchurch seconds.

Liam McKee and Sam Warburton found the net before goalkeeper Ellis Wilson produced a fine save to protect that advantage.

He was beaten at the end of a sweeping move by the hosts in the second-half, but the away side held on.
