JIM Duffy has produced two personal best rides with Weaver Valley Cycling Club during the past fortnight.

He produced a strong ride in the Anfield 100-mile time trial to finish in 4.11.24 (23.9 mph), 11 minutes faster than his previous best.

That saw him finish in 14th position.

Alistair Stanway also produced a personal best 4.27.45 at the Anfield event, while the fastest time was posted by Adam Duggleby, from Vive Le Velo, who completed the course in 3.31.06.

The race was staged on 17-mile rolling laps, with rough road surfaces and intermittent rain.

And then Duffy delivered again in the latest race of the club’s Guardian Cup 10-mile time trial series.

He produced 22.11 but Paul Connor maintains a significant lead of 22 points overall.

Emily Martin continues to impress and produced a time of 26.17 in this Wednesday series that is open to all comers.

Arrive at Shakeley Mere car park by 6.30pm to take part.

Novice Martin was competitive in the Bickerstaffe Ladies Road Race for third and fourth category riders.

The race, promoted by Southport Cycling Club, was contested over 39 miles on short, flat 2.5-mile laps.

Martin was in the mix throughout, working from the front to attempt to establish breaks, but she was always thwarted by a determined bunch.

Despite her hard work earlier in the race she ended up being boxed in on the final corner and was not able to contest the sprint, so failed to make the final placings.

The average speed of the race was 23.9mph, a high pace for this category of road race.
