A SINGLE break of throw was enough to separate Stuart Kellett from Dirk van Duijvenbode when they met in the UK Open on Friday afternoon.
The Dutchman progressed to the third round following a 6-4 win at Butlins Resort Minehead, where he pinched the opening leg from the Northwich ace after landing double 16.
He stayed out in front for the remainder, avenging a defeat against the 35-year-old at a Players’ Championship event last weekend.
Kellett broke his duck by pinning double 16 in the third leg, but could not make the most of his best chance to break back after missing three darts at double nine in the fourth.
He did not let it affect him though, checking out 127 on the bullseye – the best finish of the contest – to make it 3-2.
The rivals then shared the next four legs before van Duijvenbode completed victory in style with a 12-darter that included the game’s first and only maximum.
He now waits to discover his opponents in the last 64, scheduled for this evening.
Awful performance! Really disappointed but all the best to dirk who was much the better player
