SIBLINGS Matthew and Lucy Hawkrigg, from Northwich Centurions, returned from the UK National Lifesaving Championship with a medal last weekend.

They took bronze in their category after collecting points across four disciplines at Ponds Forge International Sports Centre in Sheffield.

Their score for aquatic initiative was the second highest of 15 competing teams, each representing a different region, while they ranked third for line throw.

Matthew, 14, and 12-year-old sister Lucy secured their spot as North West representatives after coming through a heat in September.

They are the first swimmers from the club to contest the national finals since Cian Morrin and Martin Rogerson three years ago.

Centurions’ lifesaving club meets every Monday at Memorial Court.

Head coach Dave Williams, along with Survive and Save Instructor Wendy Metcalfe, are assisted by Jenny Metcalfe, Bob Hawkrigg, Sam Watson and Helen Tasker-Hall.
