A BOXING coach from Northwich will travel to France next week to teach the skills of his sport to migrants at a camp in Calais.

Mark Bebbington, who runs New Era Boxing Club on Queen Street, and his girlfriend Stacey Copeland – a European silver-medallist in the ring – hope to encourage children there to be active.

They plan to make the journey in a van filled with sports equipment and clothing that they will donate to those living at the camp.

“Some of the kids there have said they’d like to box at their own gym,” said Bebbington.

“The conditions there don’t look great, and projects like this one are bout us doing a bit to improve them.”

The duo are collecting donations of equipment, such as footballs, and sports clothing to take with them.

Trainers, tracksuits, hooded tops and sweatshirts are on the list too.

Bebbington added: “We’ll get involved in as much as we can during our few days there, whether that’s coaching, running boxing session or just generally showing support for youngsters there.

"We want the van, which we've hired from Cheshire Self Drive, to be as full as possible with stuff."

They are due in France from next Saturday, October 22.
