DAVE Williams, from Wrexham Roads Club, won a thrilling edition of Weaver Valley Cycling Club’s Autumn Road Race on Sunday.
He made it past race-long leader Tom Whalley (CC London), who had broken away from the bunch on the first of a four-lap race covering 50 miles on roads close to Great Budworth and Pickmere.
And Williams timed his move perfectly to catch the man in front before maintaining a gap to the chasing pack in a sprint to the finish.
By way of consolation, Whalley was presented afterwards with a prize for most aggressive ride.
Jim Duffy, Tony Booth, John Keen, Iain Young and Matt Ellis represented the promoters, all of them active at the front of the bunch that attempted to catch Whalley after his initial breakaway.
The latter produced the strongest performance of the quintet, classifying eighth.
