RHYS Nevin-Wharton led a Cheshire Boys’ team to a convincing victory against their North Wales counterparts last week to retain the Major Charles Hall Cup.

The Sandiway Golf Club member, an England junior international, showed his quality in tandem with clubmate Tom Duncalf as they won 8/7 in the opener at Pryors Hayes Golf Club.

Victories followed for Styal duo Jacob Oakley and Will Dodds (5/4), Ryan Nevins (Styal) with Bramhall’s James Kempster (4/2) and Ringway’s Josh Curtis together with Luke Donnelly (Ashton on Mersey).

Archie Palmer (Bramhall) and George Mitchell (Congleton) added a half as Cheshire established a 4½-1½ advantage after the morning’s foursomes. Nevin-Wharton, who lives in Winnington, was a winner in the singles later the same day.

Successes for Oakley (5/3), Dodds (3/1), Nevins (4/2), Curtis (5/3), Kempster (6/4), Donnelly (4/3), Palmer (two up) and Mitchell (6/5) – as well as for Warrington’s Jake Hibbert (7/5) – added gloss to a 14½-3½ victory on aggregate.
