LEE Suthard captured Weaver Valley Cycling Club’s 25-mile time trial title on Wednesday, when he completed the course in 54.56.

Jim Duffy (57.38) and Alistair Stanway (59.40) made fast and steady progress to finish in second and third place respectively.

Duffy was back in action on Saturday, contesting the Pendle Forest 10.

And he returned home happy after knocking 60 seconds off his previous best for the distance, stopping the clock at 21.29 to classify inside the top 30 overall.

Ryan Perry (Langdale Lightweights) – a national champion over 25 miles – took first prize in 18.38.

Ewart Howkins attacked from the gun in a League of Veteran Racing Cyclists’ at Darley Moor, but after several laps out front on his own he was caught by eventual winner John Manning (Derby Mercury).

However the Weaver Valley man was part of a decisive break, following Terry Meechan (Coventry Cycles) over the line to take third in his category.

On Tuesday night, Ged Lacey claimed a creditable fifth place in the over 55s men’s age group during the latest round of the Audlem Cycling Club Evening Road Race series.

Jim Williams took part in the national 24-hour championships, hosted by Mersey Roads Club, last weekend.

The 58-year-old, with a dedicated Weaver Valley team providing road-side support, completed 422 miles.

Defending champion Michael Broadwith (Arctic Tacx) kept hold of his title after clocking 535 miles, leaving teammate Jonathan Shubert almost 25 adrift in second spot.
