AMY Hinchly represented her region at Wednesday’s Welsh International as a reward for her performances on track this season.
The Vale Royal Athletics Club member, part of a victorious England North team, was second in the under 20s women’s mile at Cardiff International Stadium.
She timed 5.02.16, trailing England South’s Niamh Bridson (Blackheath & Bromley) who led at halfway before passing the bell in 3.39.45 and crossing the finish-line in 4.50.75.
Bethany Williams (England Midlands) was third in 5.04.64.
Hinchly, 18, was selected after winning a gold medal in the under 20s women’s 1,500m final during the Northern Track and Field Championships at Sportcity in June.
“It’s been encouraging to see how athletes have responded to an opportunity to take part,” said Andy Day, head of competition at England Athletics.
“There were strong performances on the night, following on from good displays in area championships earlier this summer.”
