GIRLS representing their club at a competition for the first time returned home with medals.

Hartford-based Cheshire Gymnastics’ five-strong group took part in an invitational floor and vault competition at Diamonds Gymnastics Club in Halifax.

They celebrated a clean sweep in the 11-12 girls’ category, with 10-year-old Hannah Drinkwater scoring highest on both pieces of apparatus.

Her aggregate total was also the best across all age groups at the event.

Ava Hopkins, 12, finished as runner-up, while 10-year-old Ruby Clark took third place.

“Ruby was a joy to watch,” said Laura Hudson, director of coaching at the club.

“Hannah’s performance was graceful, while Ava put in a strong display too.”

In the 9-10 girls’ category, twins Millie and Freya Jackson both starred for Cheshire Gymnastics.

The former’s vault score was the highest overall, earning her gold in her class, while she took silver on floor.

Freya’s floor routine was the judge’s favourite in the category, while she claimed second on vault behind her sister.

Hudson said: “The girls looked sparkling – I’m really proud of them all.

“It was a fun day, and the success we enjoyed was an added bonus.”
