A MUM has arranged to go skydiving in an attempt to raise money for new equipment at her daughter’s gymnastics club.

Vicky Allington, who lives in Leftwich, told the Guardian that she feels both excited and nervous about her jump at Tilstock Airfield in Whitchurch.

Her daughter Bethany, 10, is a member at Hartford School of Gymnastics.

The club wants to install a new sprung floor, which will cost around £12,000, at their Anderton training base.

So far they have raised around half of that amount.

“We’re getting closer to the target, and I hope this skydive helps them on the way,” said Vicky, who will be filmed when she leaves an aircraft 10,000 feet in August.

“It feels a long time off at the moment, so I’ve not really thought too much about it.

“Right now I’m excited and nervous!”

Her initial target is to collect £200 in donations.

The floor in the club’s home, at Cosgrove Business Park on Daisy Bank Lane, has been in place since they moved there more than a decade ago.

It absorbs shocks, giving it a bouncier feel for gymnasts.

“It’s one of the most expensive pieces of equipment a gym has,” said coach Michelle Oakes.

“It’s a lot of money to raise, but we’ve come a long way already after starting to save a year or so ago.

“But to have a new floor installed would make a big difference to our gymnasts, helping them to better prepare their routines for competitions.

“When they travel to Liverpool or Wigan, they compete on modern floors.

“If we have one here, then they won’t need to adjust as much.”
