GRANGE School Rowing Club warmed up for a national event later this month by recording eight wins at Shrewsbury Regatta.

A women’s novice coxed four, with Lucy Cornelissen, Lizzie Blakeman, Abi Tighe, Imi Stubbs and cox Katy Glynn on board, claimed overall honours in their boat class on the River Severn.

First prize went as well to Catherine Gray, Helen Owen, Poppy Howe and Sian Walker in a women’s IM3 quad.

Nicole Semple, Charlotte Lawrence, Ilona Webb and Louise Semple were in an under 18s girls’ quad that matched that feat over a 1km course.

A win in the final was recorded by Archie McCauley, Patrick Lee, Tom Clough, Jamie Hawes and cox Ellie Shroeder in an under 15s boys’ coxed quad.

The under 15s girls’ coxed quad of Freya Sheldon, Libby Prescott, Ellie Cushen, Erin Simpkins and Alex Collins were similarly successful in Shropshire.

Annabel Matthews won too in an under 15s girls’ single.

Some of the Hartford school’s youngest rowers celebrated success as well.

Seb Paisley, Jack McGinn, Brad Strickland-Baker, Harry Barker and cox Olly Andrews won in an under 14s boys’ coxed quad, while Grange’s other victory was recorded by a second boat in the same category.

Northwich Rowing Club’s Josh Jackson joined Matt Kenyon, Oliver Goodman, George Oglesby and cox Lucy Hall in the crew.

“Hard work in training led to a day of great results,” said head coach Graham Jump.

“It was also good practice for the national schools’ regatta in a few weeks’ time.”
