GLADSTONE A secured a runners-up spot in the Northwich and District League’s top-flight on Wednesday, when they dedicated their victory to former teammate James Farrell.

The popular player died after a short illness last week.

“James was a stalwart of our competition after representing a number of clubs,” said secretary Kevin Barry.

“He won plenty of honours in that time, and will be remembered fondly by so many of us.”

Rudheath could not prevent Gladstone C reaching the end of the campaign with an unblemished record, with Darryl Fallows’ fourth maximum break of term a highlight of the champions’ win.

Elsewhere in Division One, Leigh Cobley contributed an 8-ball break to Barn Owl D’s success at Castle Private C, where captain Leon Hewitt won a deciding frame for the visitors.

Greenbank C were condemned to relegation from the second tier following a 5-2 defeat at Owley Wood, and join Witton Chimes A through the trapdoor.

That came as a relief to Iron Bridge, who survive despite losing their final fixture 6-1 at Barn Owl B.

Barn Owl E take third place after ending the season in style at Moulton Legion, while champions Greenbank A could afford to lose their last match and still finish five points clear of runners-up Nectar’s.

Lion B collected the points they required to finish first in Division Three, squeezing past Salt Barge by the odd frame after losing the first two.

Bowling Green are promoted as runners-up after winning at Green Dragon B.

Blue Barrel B prop up the table after a hammering by Barn Owl H, while Barn Owl A finish third overall following a 4-3 win at Blue Barrel A.
