WOMEN led the way for Northwich Rowing Club during Saturday's North of England Head at Chester, returning with three victories.

An under 17s girls' quad of Hannah Cooney, Anya George, Imogen Wolstencroft and Beth Willford-Dutton were triumphant in their boat class, completing a 5km course on the River Dee more than a minute clear of closest rivals Merchant Taylors' School.

Meanwhile in the same division, Katherine Schofield and Emma Pullan joined forces with Grange School Rowing Club duo Lucy Cornelissen and Imogen Stubbs - along with cox Bethan Coffey - to win in an under 16s girls' coxed four.

They completed the course in 20.22.0.

After a successful race on the Tideway at the Head of the River Race seven days earlier, Northwich's masters women made it a hat-trick of wins for crews in green and gold at Chester.

Melanie Bishop, Mary Ozsanlav, Carole Riddell, Kerry Clarke, Claire Miller, Elaine Young, Claire Holt and Melanie Benson were steered to victory by cox Katherine Mooney.

A gap to second-placed Pengwern was less than five seconds.

Northwich Rowing Club will host their annual Spring Head on Sunday, April 3.

A free taster day for over 18s follows a week later, from 11am.
