Winnington Park 4 Liverpool Sefton 1

A THIRD successive win, a feat they haven’t achieved in almost six years, warmed Winnington players on a freezing afternoon.

They rise to eighth in the table as a result.

Daniel Hancock put Park in front against the North Men’s League Division Two West back-markers at Sir John Deane’s College, nudging the ball over the line from close range after captain Pete Evans’ cross had been deflected into his path.

Daniel Hilton went close to doubling their lead, but they had to wait until the final quarter of an hour before establishing a two-goal advantage when Evans’ cute finish left Sefton’s goalkeeper with no chance.

The visitors replied immediately after Park failed to clear a set piece, only for Evans to make it 3-1 with a powerful strike from a penalty corner of their own.

And a victory was made certain in the closing stages when Hilton steered in coolly from the top of the circle.

They visit fourth-placed Windermere this Saturday, push back 1pm.
