MATTHEW Langridge joins the rest of Britain’s best rowers on Saturday for the latest test ahead of next year’s Olympics.

Three other talents who demonstrated their potential on Northwich waters will be at Caversham too.

Langridge, crowned European champion earlier this year before claiming a silver medal at the world championships in August, will partner the returning Andy Triggs-Hodge – who won gold in a coxless four at London 2012 – in a strong men’s pair field.

They race consecutive time trials, followed by a side-by-side final.

James Foad, the Northwich-born ace’s regular partner, has been ruled out by a back injury.

Tom Ford, a former student at Grange School in Hartford, joins forces with Leander Club Tim Clarke in the same event.

After graduating from Newcastle University in the summer, they were ninth-fastest during a test at Boston last month.

Emily Ford, Tom’s sister, contests the open women’s single scull – to be decided by accumulation of results in two time trials with a 2km row back between the start of each - the same day.

The 21-year-old, a bronze medallist at the World Under 23s Championships this year and ex-Grange School Rowing Club captain, was seventh quickest of the rowers in her age category during November’s assessment.

Lucy Burgess, formerly of Northwich Rowing Club and now training at Agecroft, is another of the under 23s contingent who will test herself against the best of the rest of the British squad.

Also 21, she was part of a women’s quad that finished fifth at the World Under 23s Championships in 2014.

Like Ford, she is also eligible for selection for next year’s edition.
