LEAGUE leaders Barnton suffered a dent in their title hopes as Litherland Remyca walked away with the points on Friday night at Townfield.

Connor Tagoe had levelled for the hosts with 13 minutes remaining after Jamie Coulborn had opened the scoring, but Steve King netted a late winner for the visitors.

Leon Knight’s outfit remain top of North West Counties League Division One by a point, but have played two more games than nearest rivals Hanley Town.

Barnton threatened first on five minutes, when Danny Meadowcroft found Chris Lomax whose one-on-one effort was thwarted by keeper Paul Willis.

The hosts went close again when a ball played through from midfield to the left wing was collected by Kevin Towey, who cut inside two defenders into the box but shot wide.

Towey was causing regular concern for the Remyca back four, and on 18 minutes found space on the edge of the box only to have an effort saved by Willis.

However it would be the visitors who opened the scoring after the break. On 51 minutes Colbourn collected the ball on the edge of the box from a corner and fired into the top corner.

The Villagers levelled 16 minutes later, with Tagoe putting a free kick beyond reach of Remyca stopper Willis and appearing to give Barnton the momentum.

But in the 90th minute it was the visitors who snatched the points, as King bundled home at close range.
