MARK Wakefield claimed a second victory of the season in the MINI Challenge UK at his home circuit on Saturday.

The teenager made a perfect start from the grid’s front row in the afternoon’s second race at Oulton Park, edging ahead of pole-sitter Max Bladon by the first corner.

And the Weaverham-based driver protected the lead, despite pressure from his rivals, for the remainder of the 20-minute sprint to earn a place on the podium’s top spot.

It completed a successful day in the sunshine at the Little Budworth track, where he had been seventh fastest during qualifying.

A stunning start propelled the 17-year-old up the order, to fourth position, during the opening lap of the first race.

He climbed to third shortly afterwards, from where he thwarted series leader Ricky Page until his rival passed at Old Hall on the last lap.

However Page received a five-second penalty as punishment for exceeding the track limits, leaving Wakefield to take his place on the podium.
