GEORGE Lawton, from Northwich Rowing Club, won a silver medal while representing Great Britain at the Coupe de la Jeunesse in Hungary on Sunday.

He was part of a junior men’s double, along with Rory Harris of Pangbourne College, that finished second behind Italy in the final.

They had beaten the Italians during a heat during the morning at Szeged.

Lawton, joined by Northwich coach Jed Barlow at the annual European team competition for under 17s, and Harris were victors in their heat on Saturday too.

However they were edged into fifth position during a final later the same day.

Great Britain sent 51 rowers to contest 13 boat classes.
