TEENAGERS from Northwich Rowing Club, crowned as national champions last weekend, have been selected to represent England as a reward.

Harry Blake, Jack Radford, Leon Langmead and Sam Harte were victors in a men’s quad during the British Junior Championships in Scotland, where they return tomorrow, Saturday, for the annual Home International Regatta.

Rival crews from Ireland, Wales and the hosts will provide the opposition.

“As a club we're incredibly proud to be represented on the international stage,” said captain Rachel Hooper.

“It’s testament to the boys’ programme here that we can continue to put out winning crews each year.”

The Northwich saw off the challenge or Royal Grammar School High Wycombe in last Sunday’s final after beating Norwich to first place in the semi finals earlier the same day.

They had also been fastest in the 12-strong field during a time trial.

Hooper added: “The boys raced with real maturity to dominate the event.”

Langmead had been in a Northwich crew, along with Finn Lawton, Zak Trigg and Alex Bain, that won a gold medal in the same boat class at the previous edition.

In 2013, Northwich were runners-up.

Five other crews, wearing the club’s distinctive green and gold, reached A finals.

An under 16s boys’ coxed four, consisting of Rhys Coffey, Matt Radford, Lawrence Williams, George Crouchley and cox Tom Swithenbank, took silver behind Claires Court.

The same line-up won bronze at the National Schools’ Regatta in May.

Beth Willford-Dutton (under 16s girls’ single) and Greg Murphy (under 16s boys’ single) finished fifth and sixth in their respective finals.

Murphy missed out narrowly on a medal in an under 16s boys’ double with Coffey, classifying fourth.

Meanwhile Northwich’s under 16s girls’ double, made up of Anya George and Hannah Cooney, was fifth overall.
