HARTFORD School of Gymnastics can boast of having a new county champion in their midst.

Jessica Laundy claimed a gold medal in her category – pre novice 11 – at the Cheshire and Merseyside Two-Piece Championships in Liverpool.

She scored second highest on vault, third on floor, to record the highest combined score.

Seven of her clubmates returned home with a medal.

Darla Rigby won silver in the pre novice 13 and over, while Emily Leigh (novice 13 and over), Hermione Mason (novice 10), and Thea Smith (pre novice 10) each got their hands on bronze gongs.

Leigh’s floor routine ranked highest in her category, while Mason and Smith also posted the second-highest totals on vault.

Grace Haigh was second on floor in the pre novice 11 competition, while Megan Day and Sophie Morrin scored identically on floor in the pre novice 10 class to share third.

“It was a fantastic weekend,” said coach Michelle Oakes.

“The girls performed brilliantly, particularly those competing at that level for the first time.

“We’re proud of our gymnasts for doing their best, and also for the hard work they put into training beforehand.”

Ella Gaskill, Rea Gaskill, Taylor Jackson, Roberta Power, Katie Ridge, Megan Rigby, Mollie Stamper-Clark and Ruby Thomason completed Hartford’s contingent.
